Today I am going to continue my comments about the image you are building. Your image in the eyes of others is either positive or negative. You make the image, they will decide. Unfortunately, your career may depend on what they decide. So let’s look at some other things that can trip you up.

Your Personal Life

If you think your personal life is personal and your team doesn’t know or care anything about it, think again. It is a safe bet that your team knows where you bank, where you shop, where you go to church, and …….. if you are having an affair with another employee.

Now listen up for these thoughts! This applies whether you are an experienced leader or in your first supervisory role.

The position you hold automatically comes with a certain amount of respect. You don’t. You may have been respected in your last position. That’s in the past now.

The fact is that you will now have to earn that respect all over again with a new team, whether they are subordinates, peers or superiors. They may have heard of you, but that does not mean they will respect you the minute you take over.
